ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER HANDLE & HORN SALAD SERVERS C 1900 | INCLUDES DELIVERY IN CANADA
A rare set of antique horn & silver salad servers with elegant sterling silver handles
c 1880 - 1930 | A beautiful unique gift
Handles are marked with ‘REG 800’ indicating that the handles are made of solid 80% purity silver, this standard was heavily utilized across Germany, Italy, France and Austria because the added 20% copper alloy made the thin hollow handles much more durable for daily table use.
‘REG’ signifies a legally Registered Design or trademark used to protect the pattern design
Salad servers combining hollow silver handles with organic horn bowls and tines were highly fashionable luxury items during this era!
The spoon and fork elements are crafted from genuine animal horn, chosen for salad servers during the Victorian and Edwardian periods because vinegar and citrus based dressings quickly corrode metal and leave a metallic taste, whereas horn is completely unaffected by acids.

In excellent antique condition, as found; sturdy, clean, functional for food |
Hand wash and dry
