MIDCENTURY LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING BY LISTED FRENCH CANADIAN ARTIST REGINALD A PAYNE 1915 - 1998 | DELIVERY INCLUDED IN CANADA
This is an original midcentury landscape oil painting by LISTED AND COLLECTED French Canadian painter Reginald Alfred Payne (1915 - 1998)
Painting is titled on the back with a written and signed description by the artist himself:
‘Knowlton Pond - Late Autumn’, Knowlton Quebec
Late Autumn has arrived. The trees have shed their bright hues to let us see a more sombre but just as beautiful array of brownish trees. The sun is less warm and, too, the pond takes on more blue-grey colours. The atmosphere breathes of late autumn. Two migratory visitors prepare to land in search of food. They will be safe from hunter’s guns as they have found a true bird sanctuary provided for them by thoughtful friends.
Painting is original oil on board and is signed by artist in the lower right hand corner.
Payne lived and worked in Knowlton Quebec from 1960 onward which likely dates this piece around that date.
Beautiful rich colour palette here and textured impressionistic brush strokes.
Framed in original vintage subtly gilt finish ornately carved wood frame.
12.5” W x 11” H x 1.25” D Framed
In excellent condition, as found; light wear to existing gilt frame, back paper and hanging hardware are original, as found | ready to hang
