LARGE MEDICINE HAT POTTERY GLAZED EARTHENWARE BOWL | MADE IN CANADA | 1930's

$128.00

This is a fantastic rare to find large earthenware bowl in a classic ivory glaze, known as a ‘collar rim’ utility bowl whose thick edge profile was designed to allow for a secure grip while in use

This particular bowl is by Medicine Hat Pottery and was made in the 1930’s to early 1950”s, the cream finish is documented as their ivory or ‘white stone’ utility glaze which was popularized by MHP for household and regional hotel restaurant use - amazing history!

Medicine Hat Potteries frequently left their minimalist Kitchen and hotelware items completely unstamped except for an embossed size or pattern number pressed directly into the wet clay before glazing… as is the case with this bowl, undermarked with a simple embossed ‘10’; which would denote the mold size or standard rim diameter of roughly 10” to 11”

A wonderful centrepiece bowl or large serving bowl and also nice for foyer, credenza or coffee table

11.25” D x 5.25” H
In excellent vintage condition, as found; Note: there are three unfinished pottery points
on the interior of the bowl from the kiln and some pottery ‘skips’ along the edges of the border; these are natural imperfections for a hand crafted bowl
